CH 13 pg 116

Tak is getting tortured real bad.  It's digital torture and they put him in a small Asian woman's body, or the digital version  of one.  He's getting all the torture and it's very bad.  He tells them everything.  The problem is that they don't believe him.  They think he's someone named Elias Ryker.  He is digitally regenerated without all the torture damage.  He starts making a bunch of threats.  Saying the corps is gonna track them down and kill them all.  And if not them Mr Bancroft and his influential friends in the UN.  

CH 14 pg 125

Tak is back in the sleeve Bancroft gave him.  He is taken into a car with a robot lady, a meat head with a barcode on his head and the driver.  They are taking him to a second location and that will not do.  He kills the two "people" in the back with him and tells the driver if he doesn't land, he'll be super duper dead.  So he crash lands and Tak gets away in Mission street.

Ch 15 pg 131

Tak goes back to the cathouse he was abducted in and kills everyone except for the head dude.  He makes said dude take him to the lab where he was tortured.  He kills everyone there.  He leaves with the head of the main science dude.

Ch 16 pg 144

Tak goes to Bancroft's house.  He and Bancroft talk about hiw expensive this investigation is getting as he's had to pay off the cops and a couple local gangs to keep Tak from getting revenge killed.  They have a longer talk about what it's like to be married for 250 years and why he's so into prostitution.  Makes me think about how Dax from deep space nine was into Morn.  In the end Tak tells Bancroft that the prostitute's dad was his only suspect so far and he doesnt think he did it so at the moment Tak doesn't really have a suspect in Bancroft's murder.

Ch 17 pg 153

The sleeve Tak is in is Ortega's old boyfriend.  Tak is gonna try to use that to his advantage.  He basically tells her either she helps him investigate Bancroft's murder or he's just gonna keep getting into worse situations with more physical violence until this body he's in is damaged beyond repair.  They try to interrogate the guy that tried to kidnap Tak while he was checking into the Hendrix.  They don't get much out of him.  Tak has Ortega look to where the would be kidnapper's lawyer's office is.  They're gonna go for a ride and see if they can get anything out of the lawyer.

CH 18 pg 166

They go to.the lawyer and they dont get any info, but they do plant a bug.  Then they  get ramen noodles 🍜 and Tak has some flashbacks.  They talk about how on his planet they can't really fly cause theres an out of control defense network that shoots down anything that flies.  They get some intel from the bugs.  The lawyer made a call to new york, a call to a local fight club and a call to the Bancroft residence.

CH 7 pg 5

Tak is having a bad dream.  Mostly about dead coworkers.

Tak is woken up by bankroft's lawyer.  She's here to take him on a tour of the cloning facility.  They go on a tour and nothing really clicks for Tak.  I guess this is part of the process that his company has with this sort of thing.  When they get "re-sleeved" the system is all about absorbing information.  This is one of the things that makes them useful on any planet In the galaxy.  They are working whatever case they're given, but also absorbing all the cultural info to live in any human civilization.  So it might be a while for this absorption process to kind of run its course and Tak can really focus on critical thinking.

Tak gives the name that Ortega gave Tak to the lawyer.  The lawyer explains that it was a prostitute that Mr bankroft got pregnant and Mrs Bancroft nearly beat to death.  But in the end everyone involved was paid off and the Bancrofts didn't face any consequences.  

CH 8 pg 70

Tak goes to pay a visit to this lady's dad.  The whole thing is very sad.  He's poor and his wife and daughter are both basically dead.  They aren't really dead cause they have digital selves in storage somewhere but he's never gonna have enough money to resleeve them.  He has plenty of motive to kill Bancroft but he sure doesn't appear to have the means of opportunity.

Ch 9 pg 79

Tak goes to a cathouse and talks to one of the lady's of the night.  He claims to be the mom of a girl 👧that worked there and he's trying to get her resleeved but that's complicated because of the way she was killed.  She tells him to come back tomorrow at the sa me time and she's hopefully have some info but is very clear that she can't make any promises.

He leaves and is attacked by some drug dealers that were hanging out outside.  It's raining ☔ and I guess he's got some sort of superpowers and fights off two of them and the third one runs away and he runs after him.  He catches up to him but then it turns out the guy has some sort of gun and if it weren't for his powers Tak would be a smear on the pavement.  Then a police transport shows up and tells gun guy to put down his gun.  It's fun how they call what we think of as regular cars ground cars and flying cars transports.  The drug dealer shoots at the transport and gets away.  

The cop opens the window and it's our favorite cop Kristin Ortega.

Ch 10  pg 88

Ortega gives him a ride home.  They don't trust each other so they kinda talk about nothing for a while.  Back at his hotel the AI tells him he has a visitor.  Its Miriam burtrum.  She wants him to stop investigating her husband's death.  They, as Amos would say, bang.  She offers him a spot on her private sex island.

CH 11 98

Tak is feeling hung over from his night with Miriam.  He decides to engage in some retail therapy and goes to Bertrum's armorer.  He buys a couple hand guns and a knife.  As he's walking home he thinks he has a tail.  Then all of a sudden he is seeing images of women's naked body parts.  Apparently this is a means of advertising that is outlawed in his planet and he finds the guy doing it and roughs him up a bit.

Ch 12 106

Tak goea back to meet with the Lady of the night.  It goes badly.  She's already dead before he gets there and armed thugs are there to secure him and the dead body and take them to a second location.  There are med techs there to torture him.

Altered carbon prologue pg 3 through ch 6 end pg 56

Someone is smoking one of Sarah's cigarettes.  They have gun 🔫 and fun different types of ammo.  Clingfilm condoms must not be good.  It appears someone's name is Tak and gun shooting is going to happen soon.  A wall exploded and a bunch of commandos rush in.  They kill Sarah.  Tak, who the cop calls Kovaks is told not to even thinks about it.  But Tak does it anyway.

Ch 1 pg 9

Kovaks has come back from the dead.  He's part of something called the Envoy Corps.  He is on earth.  The cops want to talk to him.  His new body is a thin white guy 👦 that smokes.  This is way in the future because they refer to earth as an ancient planet.  I guess he's done sort of private investigator or assassin.  He has six weeks to get the job done.

Ch 2 pg pg 15

Tak has been hired by a rich powerful man to solve his murder.  If he succeeds the rewards are great.  If he does anything untward, the punishment will be severe.  The cops tell Tak that his employers case was an open and shut suicide.  The cops say they're going to take him to his employer.  Issue is the employers letter specifically said he'd be sending a driver who was.Also his number one most trustworthy employee.

Ch 3 pg 22

Mr Bancroft is the client.  He is pretty sure he didn't kill himself.  He has beef with the police.  Nobody ever really dies in 2500.  Everyone has digital backups.  Rich people have clones at the ready to have their digital selves transferred into.  Mr Bancroft and his wife are over 250 years old.

Ch 4 pg 36

Take interviews Mrs Bancroft.  She's combative and illusive.  He doesn't get much out of her other than an initial sexual excitement of being near someone so old in such a young body and then after talk to her for a while in her room full of antient maps a feeling of horrified oppression from being surrounded by so much old.

CH 5 pg 41

Mr Bancroft's most dedicated employee and driver Curtis gives Tak a ride to the middling to dangerous part of town so Tak can stay at a moderately affordable hotel.  He goes to the Hendrix hotel.  There's a computer there to great him.  He says he will be staying indefinitely and the computer says he will need to put down  a 600 deposit.  Someone puts a gun to his most important digital implant and says if he doesn't then Tak will be fur real dead.  Then the computer says something odd and Tak has the idea to wipe his spit on it to authorize the DNA payment.  At this point he's a paying customer and the hotel defends him by filling his would be kidnappers with bullet holes.

Ch 6 pg 47

Tak has a long conversation with Ortega, the cop that picked him up at what I'm calling the airport.  They dig a bunch of hardware out of the body parts of the would be kidnappers.  They figure out this is two of the same person.  If they can prove it, the penalty is Erasure.  This is shocking to Tak, cause where he's from that was outlawed a long time ago. Ortega calls Bancroft a Mes, short for Methuselah, and talks about how a lot of Meses lose their humanity, or the start thinking of themselves as human and anyone that hasn't lived hundreds of years as subhuman and disposable. Ortega gives Tak a name he can use as a starting point for his Bancroft investigation.

This book was published in 2015.  He got a bunch of people sending him their own nature words.  One from a 96 year old woman.  some times physical materials like flower, seed, bark, etc. Was.also included.

ch 33 holden pg 343

Holden is sad that the Rocinante is getting ready to head out without his crew.  Drummer swears they're a good crew and Holden shouldn't feel bad about having a different crew on his ship.  Holden calls Monica to clear the air.  That's when she gets Naomi's message.  Holden immediately calls Drummer and says to shut downt he reactor.

ch 34 alex pg 353

Alex and the Prime Minister and his group of security groups are making their way to the Razorback.  They get a wayz and they meet resistance.  one of the resistors recognizes Alex and in chitchatting the belter calls Naomi a traitor and say they've got her locked up on the Pella.  Bobbie shows up in her superhero suit and quickly turns the resistors into dust.  They make their way to the Razorback and realize that Bobbie won't fit with her armor.  So they rip out a crash couch and she's just gonna hang on.  So she and Alex and the Prime Minister start making their way to the moon.  But they've got missles coming after them, so we'll see how well this goes.

ch 35 naomi pg 363

She is in the medical 🚑 bay.  She kicks the doctor in the nuts.  They fight and the doctor is winning til somone else shows up and separates them.  She gets a talking to about how she's better off not causing so much trouble.  Marco wants her here,  but he won't put up with this forever.  Naomi coughs up a device that can trigger airlocks.  Now if she can get a space suit she can kill some people.

ch 36 holden 372,

Holden talks to their hacker.  They found the code that was gonna blow up the ship when it got up to a 95% charge from the reactor.  This code could have been the cause of thousands of deaths everyone else thinks we're accidents. They get the ship on the way to the moon.  It has not blown up yet.  Fred and Holden have a long talk about all of this and their different options.  Right now diplomacy seems to be the best one.

ch 37 alex 382

Bobbie asks Alex about his kid.  Alex says he doesn't have one.

“You don’t? I thought you did.”

You and me both Bobbie.

The belters are shooting missiles at them.  They have guns and Bobbie is using them to shoot the mistles so the.ship doesn't blow up.  

Marco makes his official statement and i.like it a lot...

“I am Marco Inaros. I am commander of the Free Navy. And I call upon all free men and women of the Belt to rise up now in joy and glorious resolve. The Free Navy pledges you all the safety of our protection. This day is ours. Tomorrow is ours. The future of humanity is ours. Today, and forevermore, we are free.”

ch 38 amos 392

They make their way to Baltimore.  They find Erich.  They pitch the idea of stealing a space ship to get to the moon.  Erich is not buying what they're selling.  He's the king of the Baltimore underworld.  He ain't going nowhere.  Peaches talks about how she lost everything too and it took her a while to sink in.  Also she tells a story about a lady in prison that killed her family but always spoke of them in the present 🎁 tense.  That gets to Erich.  He sons uncontrollably for about fifteen minutes and then there's a "you son of a bitch..." moment.

ch 39 naomi  402m

Naomi doesn't wanna die, but she doesn't wanna be here anymore and she knows that if she escapes Marco will never stop looking for her and he's got a navy now.  So getting out of his clutches might be possible but staying out of his clutches is another thing all together.  

So she's decided to fake a suicide so Filip and Marco thinks she's dead.  She goes to talk to Filip, I don't remember the details but your mother's a whore.  He's gonna feel bad 👎 when he thinks she's dead.

ch 40 amos 411

They make it to this island hideaway for rich people that peaches knows about.  She used a code fro m back in the day and it works.  Miracles happen every day.  They find some people hangi mg out.  There is some tension and Amos thinks we might have a lot of dead people.  But then it turns out peaches knows these people.  She makes nice and asks if there's a ship.  There is.  But then some security guys show up trying to assert their dominance.  It doesn't go well for them.  It's time to go before the security guys come back with more guys and guns.  Problem, the ship is broken.  I'm the bright 🌞 side, it's big enough that everyone can fit in it.  Amos is gonna fix it up and take everyone to the moon.  Why is he gonna do something so kind?  “Seems like the sort of thing Holden’d do.”

ch 41 naomi 421

It's time for Naomi to make her daring escape.  The plan was to get a suit and launch herself out an airlock but hide the paper trail

so Marco thinks she's dead.  But she didn't really have the time to do all that.  She ends up in an airlock with Cyn.  He is begging her to stay and know that she is loved cause she's a belter and now more than ever belters need to love other belters.  But she opens the airlock anyway and the two of them are launched into space.

 but this is Naomi's plan and she ends up making it into the airlock of another ship.  She years her own voice putting out a distress call to Holden.  This looks like it was all a set up by Marco to lure out Holden.  If that's true, I think I love him even more, the crazy genius bastard.

ch 42 holden 431

Fred and Holden do a lot of talking about Marco.  He has always been smal! Time  how is he pulling off this big time opperation.  Fred is thinking someone better or smarter or bigger is pulling the strings.  They find the ship Naomi is on and Holden is all in on getti mg that ship.  Fred is.like "can we at least be careful?" And Holden gets all posts about it.  I know it's a trap cause Marco is so baller, but Holden finds the idea 💡 that it might be offensive.  But he settles down and agrees it might be a trap.  He calls Alex to see 👀 if he can help.

ch 43 alex 441

Alex gets Holden's message and is similarly all in on trying to save Naomi.  Bobbie reminds him they have the prime minister of Mars on the ship and have orders to get him safely to the moon.  They have to do their duty to Mars and that's more important than Naomi.  Also it's a trap so don't go fall into a trap.  Alex makes the case that this is space and the basic rule that any ship that receives a distress call has a duty to respond to it.  The Martian prime minister agrees.  He also brings up the point that if they save Naomi, they will have a friendly witness to what Marco has been doing.  Bobbie doesn't like it cause it's a trap and she doesn't want to die.  But she's outvoted so they're going after Naomi.  They return Holden's message to say they're going to check ✔ Naomi's ship out, but if anything is out of sorts, they're going to bail.

ch 44 naomi 448

Naomi is awake ⏰ and she's gonna try to get herself out of this situation.she's gonna get some tools and try to drop the core.  This ship sucks.  She cuts a wire and one of the thrusters stops making noise and she assumes that means it's stop functioning. she is able to verify that on the scopes that the ship.is now kinda spinning rather than going straight ahead.  She's pulling out wires trying to get control of the ship.  She is using vac suits that can only hold five minutes of air so all of this effort is being accomplished in five.minute increments.  And her body isn't really working that well.  She hears Alex and he's got fifteen missiles in case the person in the ship isn't Naomi.  She is pretty sure the ship is gonna explode.  She needs to.figure out a way to.tell Alex to get out of there.

ch ch 45 amos 458

Whip cream 🍦 is better than yogurt.  At least that's what my wife tells me our dog told her.

Peaches and Amos and some of Erich's crew are fixing up the ship.  They think they should be able to head out in 45 minutes or so.  Some guy asks Amos if he can go get someone else.  Amos says they're leaving in 45 minutes and if they're not here, they are getting left behind.  Those security aholes show up with friends and Amos helps to hold them off while Erich fires up the ship.  There's a fun thing where Erich tells Amos everyone on the ground is gonna be killed when they blast off and Amos is like "we care?" They blast off and make it up to the moon.  Amos name drops Avasarala expecting they'll let him land.

ch 46 alex 468

They have sent their message and are waiting for a response.  Holden says that fred has analyzed Naomi's distress signal and thinks it might be fake.  They're trying to see if they can m At Ch the spin of the other ship when something comes out.  It's a person in a vac suit and they are using belter signals to say danger explosion five minutes of air.  Bobbie has an idea.  Launch her on a missile to grab the person in the vac suit.

ch 47 naomi 475

Bobbie's plan worked perfectly.  Naomi is alive and on the razorback.  It's super cramped and they have two less crash couches than th wry have people so they can't really go anywhere.  But they can fire a missile to blow up Naomi's ship,.so they do that.  The Roci is on the way to save the day.  Plenty of room and crash couches for everyone there.

ch 48 holden 482

Everyone on the razorback has made it back to the Roci.  The whole crew minus Amos is back together.  But Alex just got good news from the moon.  I'm assuming it's Amos cause he's next up.

ch 49 amos 492

Blah, blah, blah.  Nothing really happens in this Chapter, just a lot of talking.  Erich doesn't know what to do, Avasarala informs Amos that this ship is NOT legitimate salvage, peaches is worried 😟 she'll get sent back the prison.  Amos really only knows he's gotta get back to the Roci.  Nothing else matters to him and he doesn't want to talk about it.

Amos calls Alex back and tells him about his bike ride.

Everyone is back together on the moon.  Avasarala summons them to tell them she's starti mg an official police action against the Free Navy and needs their help.  Holden a assumes she wants him to lead it and her response is the best

Holden, I have crates of anti-herpes drugs that are more legitimately UN Navy than you are

She just wants them to be a cooperative part of the action.  Especially Naomi because she was with Marcos and knows more about him than everyone else combined.

They are gonna try to go out on the town.

Amos says he wants to bring on an apprentice.

ch 51 naomi 513

Said apprentice is Peaches and Holden's immediate response is hell no.  Naomi tells Holden her while back story.  Nothing really gets resolved.  But they've got a fun theory, the colony ships that disappeared have nothi mg to do with Marcos.  The ring gates are eating ships and we have no idea how or why.

Epilogue: Sauveterre 522

Sauveterre's a former Martian ship captain.  There is a giant fleet getting ready to go.through the ring gate.  This is most of what used to be the Martian fleet.  This is who has the protomolecule they stole from Fred Johnson.  They have scientists that expect to control Roman artifacts.  These scientists make Sauveterre's skin crawl.  But he's going through with it cause it's part of the plan that other smarter folks at higher pay grades have figured out.  They start going through the ring gate.  It goes badly.  I'm assuming whatever ate the missing colony ships are eating this ship.

 Chapter Seventeen: Alex pg  177

Alex meets an old navy buddy at a coffee shop to talk about missing ships.  The waiter gives him a fancy chai cardamom honey latte cause he's famous.  His Navy Buddy sends him to another guy who sends him to another guy who's dead.  Apex gets questioned for eight hours and tells Bobbie all about it.  His pitch is they should take the little racing ship to check out the asteroid holden told Alex about.

ch 18 holden 188

Fred and holden open up the cintsiner they think Monica is in and there she is.  There's some negotiations between Fred and Monica on how the story will be handled and released.  They bring in the new repair guy to interrogate him.  He doesn't give them much but its clear he hates them.

ch 19 naomi 198

Naomi buys a ship to give to Philip.  They say their goodbyes and she tells him that he could join her on the Roci if he wanted to.  He says maybe after.  She hugs a big belter she knew from the old days goodbye but he doesn't let go and he squeezes her until she blacks out.

ch 20 alex 208

Alex is feeling out the controls of the razorback.  She's quick and nimble.  The Roci is real sluggish by comparison.  But the Roci is a ship you can live on.  The razorback is a one cabin racing ship that can only fit two people.  They're burning 1 G heading to the Hungaria asteroid to look for Holden's ship.  Alex and Bobbie talk about the Navy days.  Alex asks if she could go back to the Navy.  She tells him there's no going back for her.  They've got a long way to go so there's plenty of time to chitchat.  As they get closer, sensors go off and Alex realizes they're being painted with targeting lazers.  Must be a stealth ship cause nothing shows up on the scans as a ship.  The ship fires missles at them.  Alex goes as fast as he can toward the UN fleet and sends a distress signal.  Someone on the UN fleet shoots countermeasures at the missles.  In a desparate attempt to not die, he dumps the core and that's what the missles blow up instead of Alex and Bobbie.

Amos is at the max.prison where clarissa Mao is being held.  There's bad news.  An asteroid has landed in North Africa.  The electric grid is in ruins.  The closest city has been flattened.  Amos goes down ten floors to see Clarissa.  She doesn't get any news, so Amos tells her the whole Ilus story.  Ann alarm goes off,.the guard comes by to tell them the place is on lockdown.  Another asteroid has hit in the Atlantic ocean.  Amos asks real nice and the guard let's them watch TV.  

ch 23 holden 239

Tycho station is under attack.  This happens at the same time the new s of the asteroids hitting earth and the Martian prime minister's ship has been attacked.  After a lot of fighting, they get control back.  But the attackers got what they came for.  They stole the wall of Fred's office with his safe.  That's where he was keeping his protomolecule sample.

ch 24 amos 250

They are hanging out watching the news when suddenly the whole place shakes and goes black and Amos falls down.  Emergency lights come up.  Another asteroid must have hit much closer to where they are.  Amos is pretty sure his hand is broken.  Clarissa is ok.  Amos convinces the guard they gotta evacuate.  It's three.guards one other prisoner Amos and Clarissa trying to get out.  They try to take the stairs.  At a certain point there's no more stairs, they're just rubble.  It's gonna be a looooong day.

ch 25 naomi 261

lots of chitchat between Naomi and filip.  He talks a out how this is all him.  He got the Martian stealth technology to do the meteor drops on earth.  She talks about how Marco got so much blood on her hands.  Now he's done ✔ the same to filip.  It haunts her, all these people that she helped Marco kill.  She tells Filip to.come talk about his feelings when the horror of what he's done kicks in and he starts to consider suicide.  He says she's dead to him.

ch 26 amos 272

Amos and Clarissa .She it out of the prison via the elevator shaft. The other prisoner killed two of the guards so they kicked him in the nuts and threw him back d own the elevator shaft.  The plan is to figure out how to get to the 🌙 moon.

ch 27 alex 282

Alex and Bobbie are on a Martian ship.  Beats being dead.  They eat grill cheese sandwich and they get grilled by the Martian interogators.  But.things are.relatively cool cause Bobbie and Alex accidentally saved all their lives and they know it.  So people are being nice.

ch 28 holden 293

Anderson dawes has.decided.to.recognize.The terrorists as a legitimate part of the OPA.  He has invited Fred Johnson to come.out to.wherever he is to a meeting with the other OPA leaders.  Fred has also been invited by Avasarala to come to the moon 🌙 and meet with earth 🌎 and mars leaders.  Holden is eating Thai chicken 🐔 curry and it is not good.  He talks to Feed and Drummer about all this.  They tell him Medina station has gone dark.  There's also 25 ships that used to be Martian stealth ships heading that way.  They can't do anything about it, so they're going to the moon.  Holden calls Alex to let him know he'll be seeing him sooner than expected.

Naomi decides it's time to try to shake down Marco for information.  They have some heated talk.  At the end of it Naomi is pretty sure that they tried to kill Fred Johnson and he is still very much in danger because the new head engineer at Tycho who Marco told Fred through Anderson Dawes he's willing to do a prisoner exchange for has put Naomi's old software that can blow up ships on the Roci and it's just a matter of time until it is triggered and kills Fred and Holden.

Amos calls Clarissa Mao Peaches and in this Chapter the book starts calling her peaches.  So I will too.

Amos and peaches meet a nice old man who told them to avoid the preppers due east.  So if course Amos heads directly that direction.  He offers to trade the guy a water thingy in exchange for guns.

Peaches comes out of nowhere and kills the prepper.  Nobody comes out for revenge so Amos goes inside to check it out.  They get a bunch of supplies, including "a stack of surprisingly boring pornography". He and peaches have a heart to heart about the morals of what they've done.  She explains that if you kill someone in order to steal their stuff you're not the good guy.  Amos's response to that is he's gotta get back to his ship.

They are heading to the moon.  But pretty soon there's trouble.  The support ships are starting to fire on them.  They are out gunned and out manned and out planned.  They are being borded.  The plan is to put Alex, Bobbie and the Martian prime minister on a ship headed to the moon 🌙 while everyone else acts as a distraction.  There's an incoming message.  It's not a tight beam, it's a broadcast message.  It's Naomi.

The belters are getti mg ready for their sneak attack on the Martians.  They have Martian uniforms and they are practicing talking 👄 like Martians so they will think they are regular Martian ships.  She gets strapped into a crash couch.  She is pretty sure if she gets the high G injections, hers will be full of sedatives.  So she wriggles her way out and avoids the injections.  She sneaks around the ship and finds some tools and is able to send a message to Holden.

The software controlling the magnetic bottle has been sabotaged. Do not start the reactor without reloading the hardware drivers from a known good source

ch 9 stonebrooks pg 263

This chapter is vaguely about geology.  What its more about is Jaquetta Hawkes's book "A Land" which is about British geology.  There's fun contradiction in A Land in that it has a general we are all the same cause all land everywhere is made up of similar rocks, yet it also speaks of Britain's uniqueness.  She gets all political in parts and as a result she ended up with some fans maybe she didnt want.  There was a part talking about how noted fascist and author of Tarka the Otter Henry William was a big fan of her pro British isolation ideals.  Also her writing.  He had to wait months to get ahold of a copy, so I expect its a well written book.
