The blinding knife 40 through 78

 Ch 40 pg 173

Karris tells Gavin he has her blessing to fuck the seer.  He tells her to shut the fuck up.  There's no room in his heart for love. Only darkness.

Ch 41 pg 175

Dazen is in the green prison. A blue loaf of bread comes down the shoot. It's blue enough to draft.

Ch 42 pg 17 teia

Teia meets her owner.  This is the first time she's meeting her face to face.  Turns out her real owner isn't who she thought. Who she thought was her owner turns out to just be a fake paper trail.  Her real owner is the sister  of the former governor of garrison. Gavin killed him.  That's her motivation for revenge against Gavin.  Teia tells her about the extra training kip is getting and the person she saw get murdered with her secret color.

Teia is rewarded with a promise of extra training in her secret color.  Shes also rewarded with a necklace with a vial of olive oil.  A gross reminder that if she displeases her owner she will be sent to a brothel where olive oil will be vitally important as shes repeatedly raped.

Ch 43 pg 187 kip

The librarian is helping him get better at Magic the gathering. They hit a snag when they figure out Kip's grandfather is using old cards that are largely banned.  Even the books about playing with those cards are banned.  But she tells him to go see old lady Boring and she call tell him about the black cards.

Ch 44 pg 193

Old lady boring makes Magic the gathering cards.  She makes cards based on real people.  She has the ability to see the truth about people.  She's starting to make a card based on Kip.  She knows he's far smarter and magically powerful than he knows.  She kind of tells him he's an omnicrome by asking if he wants to be prism.  She also kinda tells him he's not gavins son by telling him Gavin has two secrets and kip isn't one of them.

Ch 45 pg 197

The seer tells Gavin that something called the bane was in the sea and he was going to find it and fight it.  If he brought karris,  his odds of success were high but so were the odds of her death.

Ch 46 pg 200

Liv and the color prince talk about a lot of stuff.  One super cool bit that comes up is that the color prince seems to know that his assassination attempt on Gavin was partially successful.

Ch 47 pg 206

Kip and old lady Boring are talking and it rapidly becomes not boring.  The cards are based on real people and that's a big part of the game's appeal. It's people you know or know of and in this case it's someone kip is related to.  Zee okenshield and old lady Boring has the original card.  She has most of the original cards cause she's the one that makes them.  While drafting luxin and touching the card Kip is transported as if he is Zee okenshield on the battlefield. She also pretty much tells him he can draft all the colors.  And she keeps saying "is being prism not enough for you?" As if he knows fuck about shit.  Really most of what she says is rhetorical as Kip could not be a useful part of this conversation since he hasn't been told the whole truth about anything.

One very valuable thing she tells him is that he will never beat his grandfather using the deck he is given.

Ch 48 213

teia is getting training from another paryl user.  She shows her what her eyes look like when she adjusts to see paryl.  Theyre completely black.  They talk about the man teia saw kill with solid paryl.  The tutor says to never tell anyone.  Theres a cycle with paryl users where its ok for a while then someone finds out you can kill with paryl or spreads rumors of it and paryl users are killed as heretics.  So if teia doesnt want to end up dead she should never talk about solid paryl again.

Ch 49 pg 218

Kip plays cards with his grandpa and loses again.  He's playing with a white deck and after losing he sees the blinding knife card.  Based on his reaction grandpa knows he's seen it.  Grandpa knew that kips mother had it all along.

Next game will be high stakes.  They play for Teia.  If grandfather wins she becomes his slave and probably does unspeakable things to her.  If kip wins, grandfather will give her to kip.

Ch 50 pg 224

Grandpa has kip moved to a private room.  For a number of reasons this passes kip off.  He goes to old lady Boring and asks to make a deck of black cards.  She repeats the thing she said last time about him being smarter than he thought.

Ch 51 pg 226

Gavin is looking for some big dangerous blue thing and it's not going well.  But the tyreans have show up and their settlement on the isle of seers is going well.  Karris yells at Gavin for not being a better father to Kip.

Ch 52 pg 232

Old lady boring tells kip she'll give him a deck of black cards.  But she also explains that a single black card is worth more money than kip has ever had.  A deck of black cards is worth more than kip might make in his whole life. Kip has an idea.  Don't use priceless originals.  Use copies.  Old lady boring calls him a genius at this.

Ch 53 pg 234

Gunner is back!!!!

He and his pirate steal a boat.  It's a good boat with big strong slaves manning the oars.

Ch 54 pg 240

This one is a doozy.  The black guard scrubs are dropped off in the bad part of town and are loudly given a lot of money and told to make it to wherever ironfist is.  Not sure where that is but I remember there was a fountain.  Teia has a baller idea and she gives their money to a currier to take it to ironfist.  Pretty much every one else ends up forming a corporation and fighting their way to iron fist.  Some of them make it with all their money.

Ch 55 pg 250

Gavin finds an island out in the sea 🌊 made of blue luxin.  This is rough for him because he can't see blue so he kinda takes a while to figure out that's what he's seeing.  It's populated by blue wights.  Wait, it gets worse.  There's a central spire of blue luxin and when the sun hits it at noon it starts to form human looking body parts.  No, not human, godly.  This is the birth of the God of blue luxin.  Gavin can't have this, so he kills the God as it's being formed.   Then the blue island of luxin sinks into the sea he kills every blue wight. So much murder, so little time.

Ch 56 pg 257

The lady that owns Teia gets a visit from a very bad man under the employ of Kip's grandfather. He comes in and right away demands that she sign Teia over to Kip's grandpa.  She tells him to fuck off and he runs away and she sends guards to beat him up.  He returns, I assume after killing her guards, and starts to torture her.

Ch 57 pg 260

It's fighting day and it's not going well for kip. He gets beat real quick in his first two fights.  In his third fight he's not liking his odds as the kid he's up against is one of the best fighters.  Luckily for Kip, the color of the fight is red.  Kip just figured out how to make solid red luxin.  The kid he's fighting is blue green.  So he's able to stick the kid to the ground with red luxin and then punches him in the face and breaks his nose.  Kip goes to sit down on a chair and he breaks a chair.

At this, Cruxer, the blackest of the black guard trainees gives a speech about black guard names.  He dubs kip breaker.

Ch 58 pg 264

Kips grandpa immediately makes fun of Kip for his new name.  He talks about the legend of the light bringer and how he's also called the breaker.  He says rich people fear the light bringer cause if he breaks the world order they might not be rich anymore.

Kip uses the decks he got from old lady Boring to beat his grandfather and become Teia's new owner.  Grandfather is very very angry.

Ch 59 270

Kip has a magic the gathering card experience.   Now that he kinda understands what's going on he can really dive deep into the memories of the person in the card.  So much so this time it's like he is that person and when he comes back into himself after it's a crazy disappointment. This guy was just being given orders to kill old lady Boring.

Ch 60 pg 274

Kip tells Teia that he owns her now.  Her first thought is he probably wants to do sex to her.  Of course he does, but not Like this.  He does have a bit of an internal conflict but before any sex happens he tells her he has freed her.

She leaves wherever it was they were and kip realizes he's all alone.  He doesnt see any spies.  He goes down to the dorm to see if his knife is still there.  It's not.  Bunks have been reassigned he goes into the chest where it used to be and somebody catches him and accuses him of stealing. He turns right around and accuses that guy of stealing.  Kip goes to the lost and found and he finds his knife there.

Ch 61

Kip decides to go to old lady Boring house since she is good at hiding valuable stuff.  Maybe he can leave the knife there.  He gets there and the door has been broken and it smells of gun powder and blood.  He goes inside and kills two assasins with invisibility cloaks.  They're not invisible to him cause he's an omnicrome. He finds old lady Boring still a little but alive.  She tells him to grab the deck out of her tobacco box.  She has extra booby trapped the house to explode if stuff gets stolen.  Kip runs away carrying her as the house explodes.  Also,  old lady Boring dies.

Ch 62

The color prince is taking the army east to take over Atash.  He doesnt go right for tue big city.  He sends people out to the country to get food and other supplies.  He takes over the silver mines.  He crushes a town on his way back to the big city.

say what you wil about him, but he's legitimizing sex work in a way that i find is bery really respectful.

ch 63

Theres a lady thats a blue drafter.  She knows that gavin is dazen.  Shes being held by the color prince, much like how Karris was being held with the hope she will join the army.  But shes trying to escape.  Then at the end of the Chapter its not really her that we're in this chaptwr with.  Its someone thats channeling her magic the gathering card.  so thats a cool thing ti know is possible.  I wonder if that was what the assasins that were sent for old lady boring were after.

ch 64

Kip is on the run from the world at large with four priceless treasures.  He gets the idea to go to iron fist.

He is let into iron fist's room.  He pits the four priceless things on the bed and uses subred luxin to dry off.  He kind of goes into a shame spiral about how he could have used Magic to do all sorts of things he didn't think of tonight.  He then decides that instead of waiting for iron fist and explaining the situation he's gonna go confront his grandfather right now.  He tells the black guard guarding the door he'll be back in ten minutes.  I'm real confused about this as I thought his grandfather's place was kinda a ways away.  But I guess it's here in the main chromeria building.

He forces his way in and accuses his grandfather of killing old lady boring.  His grandfather explains that no amount of card game shenhannegans would motivate him to kill a demiurge.  I guess a demiurge is a maker of magic the gathering cards.

Also, he was friendly with this particular demiurge, for a time.  She made a card of him and let him see what other people would be able see if they channeled it.  This is a great honor and if kip now feels very foolish.

Ch 65 pg 302

Another magic the gathering card scene.  This time it's a lord commander but the identifiable person in the scene is named finer and they are injecting green luxin into their knees so that they can jump down a cliff and be ok at the bottom.

Ch 66 pg 304

Kip is back in iron fists room.  He's looking at the cards.  He finds his grandfather's card.  In this card his grandfather is a young warrior and he has the blinding knife.   And the card of one of the assasins that killed old lady Boring.  He finds one he thinks is commander ironfist. Commander ironfist shows up and says it's not him.  It's his brother. Kip explains everything to ironfist.  Kip says one more thing.  Ironfist, as a joke,  says what, you got another legendary thing you found?  Kip shows him the knife.  Also, one of the jewels now glows green.

Ch 67 pg 310

Dazen uses the blue bread to escape from the green prison.

Ch 68 pg 313

Gavin is making the general the Satrap of seers Island. Among other things this means the color prince can't kill Liv or he'd risk uniting all the other Satraps against him.  Gavin and karris leave.

Ch 69 pg 318

Iron fist does not love the position that kip has put him in.  Between the cloaks and the blinding knife and the cards there's enough motivation to have kip declared a heretic and killed for any normal person. Luckily iron fist isn't a normal person.  He's abnormally loyal.

Gavin shows up and (for reasons I don't really understand) ironfist has to go on the run.  It's something to do with Kip's grandfather.

Ch 70 pg 326

The color prince and hus army make it to the big city.  He meets with the guy in charge of the  city,  who is the Satarap's son.  He's gonna do horrible things to the city if they don't surrender.

 CH 71 pg 334

The white convinces ironfist to stay.  Kips grandpa may want him out, but that doesnt mean hes going to get what he wants.  If ironfist runs he gives kips granfpa what he wants.  Have faith in Gavin.

Ch 72 pg 340

The color prince Gave big city til noon to surrender. Noon comes and no surrendering yet. So they take one of the women they captured from the smaller city and launch her into the city walls with a catapult.  They do better with the next lady.  She makes it over the wall and we'll into the city.  Eventually the surrender happens.  Also Liv got a letter from her dad telling her to come home .  She's not gonna do that.  She's gonna have sex with her tutor.

Ch 73 pg 348

Gavins back and he's got lots of business to attend to.  But he does take some time to talk to kip.  He tells kip that he has all the powers and that he shouldn't worry about the whole lightbringer thing cause he's pretty sure it's nonsense.

Ch 74 pg 357

Magical congress is meeting to vote on war.  Gavin felt kinda ok coming into this meeting.  But things have gone badly for him.  First,  the lady in charge of whatever country is the green is dead.  She died of a stroke.  Donuts to dollars, she's the lady we saw murdered with peryl.  There's lots of explaining who's which color and what country they're from.  The hammer drops at the end when Kip's grandfather shows up.  Gavin is pretty screwed.

Ch 75 pg 361

Karris shows up to black guard training.  She demonstrates a takedown by poking cruxer in the eye and breaking a finger and then she flips him.  Flips him for real.

Ch 76 pg 363

Through some political shenhannegans Gavin gets congress to approve the war. He also declares that kip is his legitimate son.

Ch 77 pg 379

Smite, one of the Black guards that's been escorting Kip around, comes to Karris.  She confesses a secret long held.  She was beholden to kips grandmother because she saved her brothers from pirates.  She gives karris a note from Kip's grandmother. It says Dazen has always loved her and has always loved her.  Two big important things here.  Dazen didn't alope with karris because he honestly thought she loved Gavin and Dazen didn't want to interfere with karris's happiness.  The other is that Dazen didn't storm into her family's house and murder her brothers like karris and pretty much everyone else thinks.  He was lured there by her brothers into a trap.  They chained all the doors shut and flooded the house with red light cause they didn't know Dazen could draft red.  Her brothers may have died at Dazen's hand, but it was self defense.

Smite, as per Kip's grandmothers instructions,  gives karris a gun and a fancy dress.  She chooses the fancy dress, assuming to go make woopy with Dazen.

Ch 78 pg 383

Kip's grandfather summons Gavin.  He says Gavin has to marry and have children.  Gavin says he'll only marry Karris.  Kip's grandfather says that won't do and he's to marry a rich lady's sister.  A green drafter. Kip's grandfather appointed her to be THE green but Gavin in manuverings to get his war vote got her removed from that position. Kip's grandfather wants Gavin to marry a woman that hates him because it's politically convenient.

Gavin says he won't and Kip's grandfather makes some threats.  Threats that Gavin is sure are related to secrets the real Gavin knows.  But fake Gavin doesn't know what the hell Kip's grandfather is talking about and he's worried if he says anything Kip's grandfather will realize that he's fake.

So Kip's dad does the only thing he can think of.  He leaves without saying a word.

The time machine ch 1 through 6

 Ch 1

The timetraveler is having a bit of a salon with other academics. He's explaining how there's four dimensions to be traveled. Height, width, depth and time.  He talks about how we can only easily travel width or depth wise easily.  Height requires machines to aide us.  It is the same with time.  He can travel through time with a machine.  He has a tiny time machine and in a demonstration he declares to be sending it in time.  What we see is that it has disappeared. We assume it must have traveled forward in time as if it had traveled back in time we would have seen it on the table in the past.

Ch 2 pg 25

Narrator goes to hangout with the time traveler again.  He shows up and there's another group of intellectual people. The tike traveller's not there.  Eventually he shows up and he's in bad shape.  He's not even wearing shoes.  He says he's been time traveling and he will tell the tale as long as nobody argues with what he says or interrupts the story.

Ch 3 pg 37

Time traveler tells the story.  Most of it is him going back and forth in time without do8ng anything other than explaining that the physical effects on him caused by the time machine suck.  Certainly not the sort of thing he would suggest after saying "who wants to have a good time?

He goes a ways into the future and I think the machine flips over or something and he hurts his chin.  He finds himself next to a giant sphinx looking statue.  He hears talking and sees hooded figures heading his way.  He considers getting the hell out of there.  But as they get closer he sees they're bald.  So he ain't afraid of no bald heads.

Ch 4 pg 49

He thinks this is roughly the year 2800.  The people have tentacles.  He makes sure to disable the time machine and he and the little pretty tentacled people go somewhere else. They just eat fruit.  After a fruit meal the time traveler walks up a hill to see the city.  The river has shifted quite a bit.  The buildings are completely different. Where there used to be tons of single family homes there are now just giant buildings. Most of them are ruins.  Definitely society had built up and was now in decline.

He has all sorts of theories as to how society got to this point.  In the last sentence of the chapter he explains that all of his theories were wrong.

Ch 5 pg 72

He comes down from the hill to find his time machine is gone.  He yells at some little tentacled people, but they don't understand so they're just scared and it only gets him a feeling of shame.  He ends up kinda passing out in the lawn where he time machine used to be.  He wakes up full of despair.

He finds that theres people living underground. He figures they took his time machine.

he also figures the underground people and the above ground people used to be people and split off evolutionary at some point.  And the above ground people are oppressing the below ground people.

Ch 6 pg 108

The time traveler decides to climb down into the underground to get his time machine back.  He is whoafully unprepared. He pretty much just gets scared and runs away.

11 22 63 ch 29 to ALLOF THEM

 Ch 29

Kennedy was saved.  Sophie is dead.  Jake is a hero.  But Jake doesn't wanna be a hero.  The FBI helps him slip away and he takes a series if busses back to (so far) Pittsburgh.  Assuming he'll get back to New England 🇬🇧 and go back....

...to the future.

Ch 30 pg 787

On the way he talks to the green card guy.  Hes some sort of time cop or whatever amd hes stationed here at what he calls the time bubble.  I dont see the point as basically what they do is stand there and go crazy.  This guy also asks nicely for Jake to undo everything.

Ch 31 pg 809

Jake goes into the apocalypse future and ends up talking to the janitor.  He doesnt have the brain damage that his dad gave him in the original timeline so he is able to explain all the horrible things that have happened since Jake saved Kennedy.  Jake is gonna go back and fix it.

He goes back and the card man time cop asks him nicely to go back and reset the timeline.  He doesnt do anything and jake runs away.  This whole green card man thing is a HUGE disappointment.

Final notes pg 825

Jake is out and free in the past.  He doesn't do anything. But he does write up his whole story, put it in a lock box and bury it.

Citizen of the century pg 833

He finds out Sadie is still alive and goes to visit her.  He tells her he knew her in another life.

Afterword pg 843

Steven talks about the research he did for this and a bit of what inspired him to write this book.
