toamats wrath ch 36 through end

Chapter Thirty-Six: Teresa

Kids have control issues because they're not in control of anything.   9ne thing they can control is whether or not they eat.  Every kid goes through a phase where they stop eating to impose their control on things.  Teresa is going through such a phase now.  She ends up in the hospital 🏥 as a result. Prior to this elvi was teaching her and her class biology by disecting frogs.  She gets angry at elvi for bringing her to her doctor instead of evil scientist.   She's worried she might accidentally spill the beans about her dad and says elvi should have taken her to evil scientist cause he already knows.  Elvi tells her she thinks evil scientist might kill Teresa.

“I don’t know. I’m in over my head here.” “Yeah,” Teresa said. “Me too.”

Chapter Thirty-Seven: Alex
Alex makes it back to the Roci.  So does Naomi.

Chapter Thirty-Eight: Naomi
They fix up the roci and leave freehold to get out into space.  They are sad about Bobbie together.  Then there's a wierd unexplainable phenomenon and they lose 20 minutes.  God Dammed Laconians.

Chapter Thirty-Nine: Elvi
There's a lot of talking about the nature of the Goths and the zombie children and this latest event and Duartes situation.   Mainly in that duarte is as good as dead and evil scientist is effectively playing around with a corpse.  Elvi suggests maybe Laconia should surrender to the resistance so all of humanity can focus on the Goth problem.

Chapter Forty: Teresa
Things suck for Theresa.  Fuck this place, I'm out.

Chapter Forty-One: Naomi
Alex and Naomi get some new crew mates on the Roci.

Chapter Forty-Two: Alex
The fyll resistance fleet, which is to s pg ships goes through the laconian gate.  The laconians are not 0leased and make it clear the storm is the8r primary target.

Chapter Forty-Three: Elvi
Wlvi is having a good time hanging out with the zombie children.  She and evil scientist are summoned by Trejo.  As they leave evil scientist is all , you treat the zombie children like people and they ain't.  What a dick.  Trejo tells them about the invading 400 resistance ships.  They are curious about the plan.  The resistance must have something else up their sleeve if they expect to win against super ship.  They decide Duarte needs to make a statement.   The plan for that is to get an image of Duarte sitting down and then computer generate him making the statement.   This is challenging cause Duarte won't stand still.  Elvi holds his hand to calm him down.  His response is to stand up and the go to evil scientist and wave his hand in front of his face as if trying to shoo away a fly 🪰.   Then the strangest thing happens.  Half of evil scientist just sorta floats away into a blood mist and he's super duper dead.

Trejo decides he'll just make his own statement rather than ever seeing Duarte ever again.

Chapter Forty-Four: Naomi
The battle against Laconia is on.  The basic plan is to lure the big ship and most of the not as big but still super dangerous ships to the outer edge of the solar system while the Roci and some other ships go to Laconia to blow up the ship yards that are building these big ships.  But just as they're nearing Laconia and everything is firing on them they get an evacuation request from Amos and this changes things.

Chapter Forty-Five: Teresa
This invasion is happening and one of their destroyers was destroyed come back through the laconian gate, but we have more important things to focus on.  Teresa's 15th birthday party.  She hates it.  She hates everyone and everything and all she wants is GTFO.   Pretty standard 15 year old.  When she hears a out Naomi's four ships heading to Laconia she gets a smart idea.  She rescues Holden and takes Amos's tablet and calls for evacuation.

Chapter Forty-Six: Elvi
This chapter is a fun romantic comedy esque set of misunderstandings.  Elvi is reading mad scientists notes and gets the idea that Holden gave him the idea to kill Teresa.  So when Teresa and Holden are escaping elvi thinks Holden is trying to kidnap and kill her.  Funny.   But she doesn't have a gun or anything so it's not a big deal and Holden gets a chance to explain himself.  At this point he's Teresa's hostage and she's gonna get him off this rock.  He also explains that everything he did was with the goal of getting Elvi in charge of the effort to fight the Goths. So Elvi let's them go cause she realizes she does want to be in charge.

Chapter Forty-Seven: Naomi
The evacuation signal screws up the plan a bit cause Naomi tells everyone to slow down cause they're gonna answer the call AFTER they finish the mission.  They lose a ship blowing up the ship yards and the surface railguns, but the other two ships head toward the gate and the rocinante us landing on Laconia.

Chapter Forty-Eight: Teresa
If something bad happens to the dog I'm not reading any more.  Holden and Teresa make it to the extraction point.  But before they Re rescued,  coloneol Ilich and some thugs roll up.  He tells Teresa that if she doesn't come back with them he'll shoot her dog.  Amos saves the day.  He's a zombie now but he still sounds like he's himself.   The roci shows up and they are saved.  That is until they realize this whole thing has taken too long and one of the laconian ships has made it back and is targeting weapons

Chapter Forty-Nine: Naomi
The laconian ship tells them to drop core and prepare to be boarded.  Teresa gets on the coms and tells them to fuck off.  They do.

Teresa Duarte was an astounding beast of a human being.

The Roci four have a space burial for Bobbie.

They make it through to the ring space alive

Chapter Fifty: Elvi
Elvi has taken over Laconia's science.   Trejo is all, you gotta do more war stuff.  She tells him to fuck off and gets to work.  She tells the scientist I'm charge of the pen to shut it down.  She frees the zombie children and is all, I got work to do and you're gonna help me.

Dr. Elvi Okoye, she's a real bad bitch.

Epilogue: batch.

Ch 25
They taze a guy and there's a lot of really lame belly aching about this.  They take the guys phone and find plans and figure that if they can shut off the capacitors Bella will fwoop back to kaiju earth.  They find a cargo container they think has the generator in it that's charging the capacitors.   They go in and there's a laptop that they tell to discharge the capacitors.   It doesn't work.  A voice says cone out with your hands up We've got you surrounded.   It's narrator s old boss.

C h 26
They're caught and it sucks and it turns out that evil ceo s family has been planning this thing for decades. Lotz of gibber jabber.  The punchline of which is that they created a pheromone bomb back at bad guy base and tricked bad guy ceo into pressing the trigger.   Now kaiju parasites are coming to kill them.

Ch 27
Narrator gets shit a little by evil ceo.  Bella takes an interest in Narrator and evil ceo and vents near them and evil ceo gets sent through a portal to kaiju world and is o
Presumed dead.  Satie and chopper 2 come through the portal to save the day.  This is very good because Bella starts to fly away and they lure her back to get sent to kaiju world 🌎.   They all get on chopper 2 and head to the Canadian army base nearby.  Narrator thinks maybe this is a bad idea and is worried he'll end up in a Canadian prison for the rest of his life.  But not to worry,  turns out Satie is a coloneol in the Canadian airforce.

Ch 28
At this point everyone pretty muxh.lives happily ever after.  The bad guys are punished, the good guys finish their six month tour uneventful.  Narrator's old boss delivers food to him and he gives her a kps card so she can apply for Tom's job.

Unworthy republic Sections four (Ch 7-8) and five (ch 9-11)

Ch 7 the financiers pg 173

While there were plenty of southern people financing the take over of native land.  But there were plenty of supposedly respectable northerners and  others corporations that were involved in basically stealing native land and then selling it at an obscene mark up.

There's lots of interesting details about this.  One is that the government split up land into 6 mile by 6 mile squares they called townships with the basic idea that those would be further subdivided and the proper owner found so their land could be purchased in good faith.  None of that was really sincere though.  The government wasn't looking out for the rights of the native people that were getting displaced.  A common refrain when any native would complain to the feds about all thus they would basically be told to take it up with the state.  The problem with that is that under state law in Geogia, Mississippi and Alabama really only white men had rights.  This was a fun difference between native and state law.  Anyone could own land in native territory.  So a lot of the time when the feds did try to do the right thing and buy land from the rightful owner it would turn out the rightful owner was a woman or black and at that point the feds stopped trying.

Ch 8 a combination of designing speculators. Pg 201

Here we get into more detail over how native land was "purchased" Very few natives were able to read so it was very easy to trick them into "signing" away their land.  Also a lot of people just took up residence on native land and then just presented themselves as the legitimate owner and the government was ok with that.  Also, when the government went to auction off land these land buying monopolies had kinda taken over so the land was sold super cheap so most natives ended up getting nothing for their land.

In the rare circumstance when a native had a legitimate case and did like the feds said and took it up with the state they were told to bring white evidence.

At this point in the expulsion efforts almost all the transport was via boat.  This wasn't any better because people are still dying of Colorado in droves and being packed onto a boat made it much worse.  But when the other option was the certainty that someone would kill you on their way to stealing your land, people got on those boats to settle down on some of the shittiest land in the country.

Ch 9 1836: the southern world at war pg 231
When expulsion didn't work as swiftly as the government had hoped they pretty much just started murdering natives.  Not that this wasn't already being done,  but now it was being done on purpose by the government rather than by individuals that were never brought up on charges as there was never any white evidence against them.  All over the south the army was attacking any groups of natives that weren't heading west.

There was also just a lot of fear mongering that if we didn't get rid of all the Indians we would have tons of situations where natives and slaves worked together to kill whites.  One of the any reasons for this type of thought is that Mexico 🇲🇽 had just outlawed slavery and as a result Texas had take up violent revolution so the whites there could stay profitable 📈 with slave labor.  And as a result all southern states pointed to Texas as an example of what could happen if they didn't kill all the natives that wanted to end slavery.

There was also talk that after we killed or moved the rest of the natives to Oklahoma we had to build a wall to protect ourselves from them.  So yeah.

Ch 10 at the point of a bayonet
Nowadays all Republicans are racist.  Back in the 1830s all southerners are where supremacists.  Even the ones that didn't own slaves.  The idea that natives might be able to love freely on what southerners thought of as "their" land was offensive.  So they really and truly sent in the army to get rid of all the Indians.

Ch 11 tis no sin 282
Never fight a land war in Florida.
